What exactly is “The Herkimer”?

The Herkimer is a German-inspired brewpub located at Lake & Lyndale in Uptown, Minneapolis. With a wide variety of hand-crafted German beer, and an award-winning food menu, The Herkimer has become a local favorite in the neighborhood.

The word “Lager” comes from the German verb “Lagern,” meaning “to store.” And if you notice the large steel tanks near the front of the pub, it should all make sense. Centuries ago, German monks would make and store their beer in Alpen caves which caused excellent fermentation at such low temperatures. Any true lager should be fermented on the cool side, and stored (lagered) for at least a month at near freezing temperatures. Lagers are generally more “delicate” in their presentation to the drinker, delivering smoothly uniform smells and tastes of hops and malt. So sit back and enjoy one of our delicious lagers. The monks would be so proud of you.
